San Francisco Theatre
San Francisco State University's
playwriting program
SFSU is one of the few schools in the country to offer an MFA in creative
writing that concentrates on playwriting.
Theatre Bay Area
Lots of info on the local theater scene, slanted a bit toward actors,
but you'll find an extensive list of local
theaters and the half-price
ticket service on their site.
Playwriting Books
The
Playwright’s Survival Guide: Keeping the Drama in Your Work and Out of
Your Life
Gary Garrison's book dispenses the perfect blend of practical advice (how
to write a query letter, etc.) and therapy (the snap-out-of-it variety)
for struggling playwrights.
Playwriting on the Web
International
Centre for Women Playwrights The ICWP's mailing list is a great resource
for the playwriting community. (The list is free, and men are welcome
to join.)
playdatabase.com A huge database
of plays and monologues--searchable by title, author, cast size, length,
synopsis, and more. No charge to add your plays to the list.
Playwrights on the Web
You too can be listed in this international database of playwrights &
their websites offering production & publishing opportunities.

Review Sites
Zoetrope
A great place to get feedback on your script, short story, or novella.
Francis Ford Coppola foots the bill for the site, so don't be surprised
if there's a plug for a new vintage or an offspring's flick.
TriggerStreet
A bit more competitve than Zoetrope, this site only covers screenplays
(feature length and shorts).
Marketing and Whatnot
U.S. Copyright Office
Copyright that script before sending it out. Of course you can register
plays as well, but nobody seems to worry about that so much. (Helpful
hint: save fees by registering a bunch of shorts as a collection, not
as individual scripts. It's perfectly legit, and at $30 a pop you'll save
some serious cash.)
Writer's Guild of America
Even if you're not a member, the WGA site can come in handy, with writer
profiles and interviews, a script
registration service, and their list of registered agents.
Places to Download Free Screenplays
screentalk.biz
A wide range of spec scripts (150 or so, mostly hits, among them The
Blues Brothers, You've Got Mail, and Shallow Grave),
plus a collection of Alfred Hitchcock scripts, and an impressive selection
of original teleplays for Knight Rider. K.I.T.T. rules!
Simply Scripts
They've got a lot of titles, but you can't help but be reminded of the
street vendors selling scripts in SoHo. Where do these things comes from?
